Food and Sanitation Service
This area makes up the foundation of the industry. It’s an area every prospective chef should have an understanding of. If the food you serve is incorrectly handled you’ve fallen at the first hurdle, the rest is irrelevant. Working in an unsanitary environment is unacceptable no matter where you work or the level of your talent.

Cooking and Culinary Arts
These make up the majority of most training programs. They usually have differing names but in essence focus on the many styles and cooking procedures.

Nutrition and Food Science
In the current health focused world nutrition and food science course are amongst the most crucial in all culinary training. Especially if you have aspirations of working within a luxury resort, spa or cruise liner setting.

Purchasing
This is related to evaluating and buying ingredients alongside understanding where and when to shop. These are all primary requisites of a successful chef.

Mixology
Mixology is the art of combing beverages and liquors to complement the food you serve. There isn’t a fine meal on the planet without the accompaniment of a great tasting beverage. Knowing which drinks to provide alongside a meal is an essential skill.

Pastries
Lot of culinary arts courses offer baking and pastries as part of the curriculum. The art of baking is totally different to regular cookery and comes with its own rule set. Due to the diversity and nature of pastries and breads many of the training establishment’s provide complete courses.

Many culinary training schools offer curriculum downloads. These are an excellent way to brush up on the length and time needed to pass each topic. You wouldn’t buy a suit without trying it on and the same applies to your training. You should do some detailed researching prior to signing up for a course to ensure you give your career the best possible culinary training start.
